How should you handle tech problems?

The real job of software developer is to solve difficult technical problems other companies can't. In essence, this is why people pay us. There are still times when we run into technical difficulties and we need to run extra miles to break them through.

The real job of software developer is to solve difficult technical problems other companies can't. In essence, this is why people pay us. There are still times when we run into technical difficulties and we need to run extra miles to break them through.

The best way to break through them is to follow these practices:

  • Make it easier for yourself to understand and solve the problem by dividing it by smaller parts. Analyze the problem first before taking action. Our goal is to figure out why a problem occurred in the first place.

  • Consult experts in the field or relevant specialists who may have faced similar problems in the past. You may be surprised at how positive and helpful the feedback will be.

  • Obtain as much information and data as possible to help you understand the problem and potential solutions.

  • Bring different perspectives to the table with your team or other stakeholders. It's worse to be silent than to speak up.

  • You shouldn't be afraid to try new approaches or different solutions, even if they seem unconventional. Any problem can be solved by taking unusual paths

  • Keep track of the problem, solutions, and results to avoid repetition. You'll have an easier time if you have good documentation.

  • Be persistent and focused when facing challenging technical problems. Don't procrastinate on the little stuff.

  • Step away from the problem for a bit and come back refreshed. While you rest, your brain will still be working.

  • Check out outside resources, like software or hardware, to see if they can help. Sometimes you'll have to delete the whole part that's causing the problem and start over.

  • Regularly evaluate the solutions and make adjustments as needed for the best results. Don't keep doing the same thing and expecting different results.

Many agencies and IT consultancies I've spoken with suffer from technical issues more than others. You may think no one can help you if you're an expert. With Bleakers, we've got two main options:

1 - We handle all the technical stuff ourselves, so our Customers and Agencies don't have to worry about it.

2 - If a Client or Agency comes to us with a problem like that and they don't have any technical documentation, we'll dive into that project as an external advisor.

Ask people around if you are having difficulties and you will most likely find an answer.
